Swiss Fact 1 (Jan. 30–Feb. 5, 2005)
Switzerland has 358 km (223.69 mi) of unelectrified railroad in the country. This is up from just 12 km (7.44 mi) in 2006.
Swiss Fact 2 (Feb. 6–Feb. 12, 2005)
Switzerland has no unpaved roads anywhere in its borders.
Swiss Fact 3 (Feb. 13–Feb. 19, 2005)
Switzerland doesn’t produce any of it’s own oil and uses more than it imports. Furthermore, it manages to export an additional 10,000+ barrels per day.
Updated Swiss Fact 3
Switzerland produces 3,202 barrels of oil per day, imports 274,900, consumes 244,900, and exports 9,370, resulting in a daily surplus of 23,832 barrels. This fact is nowhere near as much fun as the original fact, so I left the original here too.
Swiss Fact 4 (Feb. 20–Feb. 26, 2005)
The top 5 list of Swiss exports is “machinery, chemicals, metals, watches, agricultural products.” Yes, that’s right. Watches. (As a side note, the only other country that lists watches as an export is Hong Kong.) Also, since only 0.58% of Swiss land is used for farming, one has to assume that “agricultural products” equals “chocolate and/or cheese.”
