Danish Fact 1 (Sept. 3–Sept. 9, 2006)

There are enough Turks, Iranians, and Somalis in Denmark that they are listed among the major ethnic groups.  However, no percentages are given.

Danish Fact 2 (Sept. 10–Sept. 16, 2006)

The Danes are getting dumber.  In an Interesting Note from February, I reported that everyone in Denmark could read by the age of 15.  This is no longer true.  According to the latest data, now only 99% of Danes can read.  About 55,000 of them can’t.

Danish Fact 3 (Sept. 17–Sept. 23, 2006)

Denmark has been a constitutional monarchy since 1849, but there was a major rewrite in 1953 which instituted a one house parliament and allowed there to be a queen instead of a king.  This must have been good news for Queen Margrethe II, current ruler of Denmark.

Danish Fact 4 (Sept. 24–Sept. 30, 2006)

The Danish political parties have great descriptive names.  Included among their ranks are the Conservative Party, the Liberal Party, and the Danish People’s Party.  Other parties used to have good names but don’t anymore.  For example, the Christian Democrats used to be the Christian People’s Party.
