Before 1814, the French and the British fought over Seychelles. In 1814, it became a British colony. It stayed British for more than 150 years. Yet, it continues to have a French name and it’s chief ethnic make up is French, Arab, Indian, and Chinese. And less than 5% of the population speaks English.
